When a tape is due tomorrow you do not need a philosophy of acting. You need a repeatable half hour that reliably produces choices. This is ours.

Minutes 0–10: what happens

Read the sides twice without deciding anything. Then write, in plain language, what physically happens in the scene and what each character wants. No adjectives about mood.

Mark where the scene turns. Most two-page scenes have exactly one real turn, and finding it is worth more than any other prep.

Minutes 10–20: choices

  1. Write your objective as one sentence: I want X from you.
  2. Write the obstacle: what stops you getting it right now.
  3. Choose the relationship: how long have you known this person, and who has power.
  4. Pick a physical state: tired, cold, hungry, late. One only.

Minutes 20–30: on your feet

Speak it out loud three times: once flat to learn the words, once fast to find the thought, once at real stakes. Do not run it more than that before taping — the fifth read is where scenes start to set into a recitation.

Adapting for callbacks and producer sessions

For a callback, keep everything and change only what the note asked for. Casting brought you back because of the choice you made; rebuilding it from scratch is the most common way actors lose the room.
